Music and Musical Theatre Teacher
Trinity School is searching for a Music and Musical Theatre Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. This individual will provide music and musical theatre instruction to Middle and Upper School students in specified grades by fostering their ability for artistic expression through the development of musicality, vocal skills, dramatic interpretation, and an appreciation for the aesthetic and technical elements of performance. Students will refine their abilities in solo and ensemble singing, acting, and stage movement while exploring the rich traditions of musical theatre and choral repertoire
Instructional Responsibilities:
- Implement the existing comprehensive vocal music curriculum for Middle and Upper School students, incorporating choral and solo vocal techniques, music theory, and ensemble performance.
- Continue programmatic music instruction in the middle and upper school grades through teaching the curriculum in a diverse and forward thinking manner.
- Collaborate with the Theatre Director to provide musical direction for middle and upper school musicals
- Enrich the curriculum as needed in consultation with the Director of Arts.
- Model and cultivate strong vocal skills, musical expression, and stage presence appropriate for all levels.
- Introduce and foster student knowledge of vocal health, choral and theatrical repertoire, and performance techniques within the context of music history and dramatic storytelling.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of musical instruments, sound equipment, and performance materials.
- Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials.
- Select, budget, store, maintain, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis
- Counsel students regarding opportunities for future music and theatre experiences (Governor's School, summer programs, etc.)
- Write recommendations and assist with applications and auditions when requested (colleges, Governor's School, summer programs, community opportunities)
- Work with school communications personnel (Parent News, website) to promote music and musical theatre programs.
- Contribute to school and Trinity community events (including but not limited to Arts Festival, performing art events, and Trinity auction) by encouraging student contributions.
- Plan and execute a scope and sequence of instruction through the use of daily, weekly, and unit lesson plans.
- Establish a vibrant classroom culture of music and musical theatre learning as well as develop skills to prepare and document personal work
- Cultivate a passion within students for creating music and performing musical theatre.
Music and Musical Theatre Department Responsibilities:
- Work with the music faculty to develop a continuum of music instruction from TK through 12th grade.
- Work with the theatre faculty to develop a continuum of musical theatre instruction from TK through 12th grade.
- Develop and maintain Middle and Upper School Music course maps as well as Musical Theatre course maps (in conjunction with the Theatre Teacher) within Trinity’s curriculum mapping program.
- Communicate with the Director of Arts regarding any curriculum modifications, program or perspective class offerings.
- Exercise necessary planning (including audio and visual needs) for the use of the facilities for music and musical theatre events both on and off campus.
- Participate in admission activities, as needed and assigned.
General Faculty Responsibilities:
- Attend professional, department, division, and faculty meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops as required in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Adhere to the bylaws, policies and procedures, and all laws that govern the school and its actions.
- Document curriculum through detailed Atlas Rubicon mapping for all courses.
- Work cheerfully and productively under the leadership of the Director of Arts and alongside other Performing and Visual Arts staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Musical Theatre, or a related performing arts field.
- Experience teaching Middle and/or Upper School students in a classroom and/or rehearsal setting.
- Strong knowledge of vocal music, musical theatre, and performance techniques appropriate for Middle and Upper School students.
- A clear and compelling vision for Middle and Upper School music and musical theatre education, demonstrated through enthusiasm, creativity, and a passion for both the subject and student growth.
- Proficiency in vocal instruction, choral direction, and stage performance, supported by a portfolio of performances or productions from the past three years.
- Ability to articulate their artistic and pedagogical philosophy through a well-crafted teaching statement
- Strong interpersonal skill with the ability to build meaningful connections and rapport with students
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet research, presentation software, and online grade book systems.
- Experience with music notation software, digital audio resources, and/or theatre production technology is preferred.
